Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8\.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified. **FLSA Status** Exempt **Hours** Synchronous (or live) sessions for 1 hour and 45 minutes for 8 weeks. The class section will have approximately 15 students. For this term, synchronous sessions will be Wednesdays 7:00pm\-8:45pm. Class meets May 6, 2026 – June 24, 2026\. Newhouse School of Public Communications is looking for a part\-time online section instructor for COM 602 Introduction to Digital Communication (3 credits) for the Summer 8W 1 2026 session (5/4/23\-6/26/26\) 3 credits. Synchronous sessions for this section will be Wednesdays 7:00pm\-8:45pm EST (5/6\-6/24\) **Course Description:** This introductory course to the MS in Communications Online program will examine the evolving nature of digital communications as it relates to the media. Students will evaluate the use and impact on the creation, dissemination and consumption of news and information. Themes explored in this course are:* Historical contexts of major media industries as they apply to contemporary trends. * Fundamentals of media business and ownership * Practices and problems around inclusivity, diversity, equity, and access in the field of communications * Media convergence * Emphasis on current issues in the media landscape and ways of addressing the vital role of media and democracy. This position is anticipated to be filled on a fully remote basis. Not all geographical areas within the United States are eligible. **Qualifications** * Master’s or Doctoral degree preferred. * Significant teaching and/or professional experience in the field. **Job Specific Qualifications** Not Applicable **Responsibilities** * View the asynchronous content in advance of each weekly live session. * Conduct discussions for each week’s live session based on direction from the coordinator of COM 602\. * Be available to meet for these discussions on the online platform provided. * Follow guidance of coordinator on topics related to the asynchronous material, student questions and progress, assignments, and exams, and the introduction of timely topical news and information that may apply to course concepts, relevant case studies and articles. **Additional responsibilities include:** * Meet all designated class periods. * Maintain regularly scheduled office hours. * Grade any assignments and exams in a timely manner based on instructions/rubrics provided. * Attend immersion sessions, if invited, when offered. **Physical Requirements** * Ability to instruct the class on the online platform on the days it is designated to meet. * Ability to hold office hours. * Ability to grade all assignments and examinations. **Tools/Equipment** Not Applicable **Application Instructions** In addition to completing an online application, please attach a curriculum vitae and cover letter. **About Syracuse University** Syracuse University is a private, international research university with distinctive academics, diversely unique offerings, and an undeniable spirit.
